How much does a wind mitigation inspection cost?

Monday, January 3, 2022

You can expect to pay between $100 and $175, with the average price being in the middle of those two numbers. A wind mitigation report is much less expensive if you order it at the same time as a buyer’s home inspection, because it saves an inspector the additional travel time to come back. Some inspectors, like us, even include it free with the home inspection.

Most of the work for a wind mitigation inspection is done in the attic, where the inspector checks things like how the roof sheathing is nailed to the trusses/rafters and, in turn, how the trusses/rafters are secured to the walls. All findings must be photo-documented in the report. For details of the other items that are checked, see our article What is checked during a wind mitigation inspection?

If your house is 30 years old or more, it’s likely that your homeowners insurance company will also request that you provide a four-point inspection, and many inspectors also offer a discount for doing both at the same time.
