Do I need a permit to install a water softener?
Thursday, April 30, 2020
The requirement for a permit varies according to the building department jurisdiction where you are located. Some do not require a permit, others require a permit and licensed plumber, or a permit and inspection but you can do it yourself.
Any type of modification of the water supply plumbing in your home runs the risk of a cross connection contaminating your drinking water. So, if you are able to install the water softener yourself without a permit and inspection, be sure to carefully follow the manufacturer’s instructions. See our blog post What is a plumbing cross connection? for more on this.
