At what height is a railing required for a deck?
Saturday, February 29, 2020
Any open-sided walking surface on a deck that is more than 30-inches above any point within 24-inches away from the edge of it requires a guardrail that has a minimum height of 36-inches, per International Residential Code (R312.1.1). The openings in the railing pickets should not allow a 4-inch sphere to pass through.
