Why is my double-wide considered a HUD home?
Friday, July 27, 2018
Some people call them a “HUD home” and others use the term “HUD-Code” home. That’s because, since 1976, the construction of mobile/manufactured homes has been under the exclusive jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. HUD created a national building code that enables a mobile/manufactured home to be sited anywhere in the U.S. that the local zoning ordinances allow. The local building codes only apply to the installation of the home at the homesite.
