What is the difference between transverse and longitudinal floor framing for a mobile/manufactured home?

Longitudinal floor joists run parallel to the long side of the mobile home. It is the older style of floor framing used up to the 1980s and an example is shown in the diagram above. Transverse floor framing, which may also be called lateral framing, runs parallel to the short side of the home and is the newer floor framing method.
